Singapore Young Author Award and Children’s Book Club for March 2011

There are two major events happening this March 2011 in Singapore in connection with children’s literature. It truly is quite exciting to be part of these events, not just as a spectator but also as an invited participant.

Several months back, I have been approached by Janus Education to be one of the panel of judges for the Singapore Young Author Award 2011. It amazes me that the awarding would now be this Saturday, March 5! I’ve been meaning to blog about this for the longest time but life – and so many books and reading challenges and bimonthly themes – get in the way.

The details are as follows:
Saturday, 5 March 2011
9.00am – 12.00 noon
Auditorium, Woodlands Regional Library

I look forward to meeting the children myself and being a part of something so vibrant and so close to my heart. While extremely busy (I am barely breathing now with a gazillion of things simultaneously happening), it brought me so much pleasure to read through the children’s stories.

The organizer for the Singapore Young Author Award is Janus Education Services Pte Ltd which holds several courses that serve to encourage young minds to explore their creativity in writing, illustration and storytelling.  Among its most popular courses are the Young Author Scheme, Young Journalist Scheme and Awesome Authors. With its mission to build Singapore’s next generation of writers, Janus Education launched the Young Reader Club magazine last year, a bimonthly literary publication for aspiring young writers – their website can be found here. It is the organiser of two prestigious annual awards, the Young Author Award and DigiTales Award.

Also on the same date, the Singapore Children’s Book Club would be meeting to discuss S. M. De Silva’s Blood on the Moon.

The details are as follows:
Saturday, 5 March 2011
2:30 – 4:00 PM
Venue: Earshot, The Arts House (1 Old Parliament Lane)

Unfortunately, I don’t think I would be able to attend the book club since I have to be somewhere else during this particular time, but we shall see how it goes.

Cheers to a Vibrant and Insanely-Hectic March!
