#GB101020 – List Of Ten Studio Ghibli Films

Love for Studio Ghibli.

Myra here.

The whole month of July will be devoted to sharing our List of 10 for GatheringBooks’ 10 years in 2020 – #GB101020.

A few weeks back, I shared my list of ten international crime-noir series available on Netflix. This time, I am excited to feature my top ten Studio Ghibli movies that my family and I watched while on quarantine-stay-at-home-mode over spring and the early weeks of summer.

There is just something about watching these movies that was deeply comforting – like going back to a previous period in history that was less frenzied, more nuanced, and easygoing; like being at the cusp of something, yet taking one’s sweet time to blossom or to get to where one needs to be. Needless to say, we looked forward to watching these animated films; our hearts always felt good at the very end of each movie.

I did not include Grave Of The Fireflies here, since it is not available on Netflix, but that would have been number one for us. While we definitely watched over ten titles, these are the ones that made the cut for my List of Ten, with my daughter helping me rank the movies from our least to most favourite:

(10) The Tale Of Princess Kaguya (Amazon | Book Depository)

(09) Castle In The Sky (Amazon | Book Depository)

(08) When Marnie Was There (Amazon | Book Depository)

(07) Whisper Of The Heart (Amazon)

(06) Kiki’s Delivery Service (Amazon | Book Depository)

(05) Ponyo (Amazon | Book Depository)

(04) Howl’s Moving Castle (Amazon | Book Depository)

(03) My Neighbor Totoro (Amazon | Book Depository)

(02) Spirited Away (Amazon | Book Depository)

(01) Princess Mononoke (Amazon | Book Depository)

Any favourites from this list? We would love to hear from you.
