Raising Readers Reading Life

Meet Our GatheringBooks Summer Intern

Presenting the new addition to the GatheringBooks family.

Myra here.

In a few days’ time, we will be celebrating our 10th year Blogiversary! Yay! What this means, of course, is that our family is growing. Just a year ago, we introduced Kenneth Quek as one of our GB Contributors (see our About Us Page). Today, I am very pleased to introduce my 18 year old daughter as our very first Summer Intern.

We just learned that we need to update our Affiliate Links with Book Depository now being part of AWIN, which caused a huge panic among us. Hence, enter our summer intern, who will be updating all our affiliate links (over the past ten years – no mean feat) and also help manage our other social media platforms. We realize now that while we are intent on producing content, we have not been as proactive in marketing said content and promoting it across our social media platforms. So, allow me to welcome the new addition to the GatheringBooks family, at least for the summer.

Welcome Summer Intern!

Hi, I’m Myka. I’m 18 and I love watching movies, bingeing on TV shows, making music playlists on Spotify, reading books, and so much more. I intend to help manage GatheringBooks’ social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. I wish to get to know more of you in the coming weeks as I work on the sidelines, hopefully boosting GatheringBooks readership. Follow me on my socials found below:

Myra is a Teacher Educator and a registered clinical psychologist based in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Prior to moving to the Middle East, she lived for eleven years in Singapore serving as a teacher educator. She has edited five books on rediscovering children’s literature in Asia (with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia, India, China, Japan) as part of the proceedings for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she served as the Chair of the Programme Committee for the Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference from 2011 until 2019. While she is an academic by day, she is a closet poet and a book hunter at heart. When she is not reading or writing about books or planning her next reads, she is hoping desperately to smash that shuttlecock to smithereens because Badminton Is Life (still looking for badminton courts here at UAE - suggestions are most welcome).
