[BHE 395] Book Hunting in Sanibel Island, Florida (and Other Awesome Book Finds)

Books from all over: Sanibel Island, Book of the Month, Kickstarter, and even T.J. Maxx! Fun!

Fats here.

I’m sharing another compilation of titles that I purchased in stores and online. In this post you’ll find a few of my book purchases when we went on vacation last fall, more Book of the Month goodies, a Kickstarter project, a pre-order tradition, and an early holiday surprise!

Books from Sanibel Island

We were able to book one of the best rooms in Sandalfoot Beachfront Condominium.

For the second year in a row, we traveled to Sanibel Island, Florida to take a much needed vacation. We thought about checking out some units for rent on Airbnb but we decided to stick to our favorite home away from home: Sandalfoot Beachfront Condominium. Like last year, I bought a few books from the island and a few more from an outlet store just off of the island.

MacIntosh Books + Paper is a local bookstore and the best one on the island in my opinion. Of course, I’m not saying that because they have a bookstore tuxedo cat named Brady.

In addition to the books below, I also bought two laminated bookmarks made up of stamps (cats for me and airplanes for Daniel), a set of magnetic cat bookmarks, a panoramic Sherlock Holmes puzzle that I’ve never seen before, and a 2020 Moleskine pocket planner, The Little Prince edition. Needless to say, MacIntosh Books + Paper quickly became one of my favorite places in Sanibel.

We love their Yucatan shrimp! So good!

We couldn’t miss going to one of our favorite restaurants in Sanibel: Doc Ford’s Rum & Grill. Second year on the island meant purchasing the second book in Randy Wayne White’s Doc Ford series.

Based on last year’s experience, I wasn’t planning on getting anything from Book Warehouse at the Sanibel Outlets, especially the day before our flight back home. I wasn’t sure if I could add more books to our luggage. Unfortunately for me, there was a sale going on that day. In the end, I was glad I went. I got myself three awesome Tolkien books.

A Bushel & Peck Kickstarter Project

Bushel & Peck launched their campaign on Kickstarter on November 2018. The creators canceled it when it did not meet its target goal. However, this hiccup did not stop Bushel & Peck founders, David and Stephanie Miles, from achieving their goal. In early 2019, they re-launched the campaign and it was a success! I backed this project because of its “book-for-book” promise. For every purchase, a book is donated to a child in need.

A Surprise Book Find at T.J. Maxx

I actually found three awesome books when I went shopping at T.J. Maxx a few weeks ago. One is Bohemian Rhapsody: The Official Book of the Movie, which I’m gifting to Daniel for Christmas. The other is The Ultimate Instant Pot cookbook, which I’m giving Daniel’s Dad who absolutely loves their Instant Pot. Of course, I get the other fun book below!

  1. My family and I go to Sanibel Island every year, Fats, actually stay on Captiva. I was happy to read your post about Macintosh Books, a favorite of mine to visit every year!
