Fats here.
It’s Monday, What are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Jen from Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee and Ricki from Unleashing Readers (new host of Monday reading: Kathryn T at Book Date). Since two of our friends, Linda from Teacher Dance and Tara from A Teaching Life have been joining this meme for quite awhile now, we thought of joining this warm and inviting community.

It has only been two and a half months since my last post about picture books featuring grandparents. Since Grandparents Day was on September 8th of this year, consider this a post-celebration of the dearest people in our lives. Both books were borrowed from my library.

In this short but endearing picture book, a young girl was curious to know everything about her grandpa. He passed away before she was born. Through the help of her grandma and the rest of her family, the young girl could imagine what her grandpa looked like and felt his love through her loving family. This book is loosely based on Jin’s story. I Miss My Grandpa is her first picture book.
“Because I never met my grandpa, my imagination has become unlimited. I imagined Grandpa integratng with the universe, which is rich, abstract, and detailed. Sometimes I can feel the intangible world when I see the world with my heart.” – Jin Xiaojing

TRUE OR FALSE?
Grandparents are SLOW.
Grandparents are SCARED of new things.
Grandparents DON’T DANCE.
In this delightful picture book by Elina Ellis, a young boy talks about the strange things he has been hearing about grandparents. The list of strange things are paired with pictures that are quite the opposite. This is a fun picture book to read with grandchildren, and probably one of my favorite books about grandparents. Ellis received the Macmillan Prize for Illustration for this book. This is also her debut picture book.
Both of these sound great!

Now that I am a grandparent, I adore nearly all books about being one. Both of these looks wonderful. I’m especially keen to read The Truth About Grandparents. I so happy that my library has it on order!

Awww… I Miss My Grandpa sounds like a title I need to hunt down. My youngest never got to meet my father. He died very unexpectedly before her birth. Would love to bring this topic up with some great books. Thanks for the shares, Fats!
