Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a good week so far. It has been a weird week at the library. Then again, today is Friday the 13th and tomorrow is a full moon. *wink* I wanted to find a poem that is appropriate for Friday the 13th but I came across another poem by Naomi Shihab Nye. I figured her poem is better than all Friday the 13th poems combined. Besides, we could all use a poem about happiness.

So Much Happiness
It is difficult to know what to do with so much happiness.
With sadness there is something to rub against,
a wound to tend with lotion and cloth.
When the world falls in around you, you have pieces to pick up,
something to hold in your hands, like ticket stubs or change.
But happiness floats.
It doesn’t need you to hold it down.
It doesn’t need anything.
Happiness lands on the roof of the next house, singing,
and disappears when it wants to.
You are happy either way.

I love the way this poem makes me think about the fundamental differences between the way happiness and sadness feel. I especially love the floating away part Thanks for sharing this–hadn’t read this one before, I don’t think.
