We are delighted to join the Nonfiction Picture Book meme 2019 hosted by Alyson Beecher @ Kid Lit Frenzy. We would also be linking our nonfiction choices with our reading themes throughout the year, when we can. While today’s post does not coincide with our current theme, both books featured today are written by women authors. Below you’ll find two nature-related juvenile nonfiction books that I’ve seen from the library several months ago.

Mama built a little nest.
She used her beak to sew
a woven nest of silky grass,
the perfect place to grow.
In Mama Built a Little Nest, Jennifer Ward combines poetry with facts pertaining to birds’ nest-building. Each spread features a different bird species and a short description on how these birds build their nest. Sometimes it’s the mama builds it, and sometimes it’s the papa that does. The book also mentioned that not all birds build nests. Some birds find a nest built by another bird species and leave their eggs in it and fly off! Isn’t that something?

Summer is the season for flowers, and everywhere you look, you’ll see bright buds and buzzing bees.
Drawn from Nature is a visual masterpiece from artist Helen Ahpornsiri. The artwork featured in this book are made entirely from hand-pressed plants, leaves, petals, and seeds. She transforms these into butterflies and blossoms, glorious greens, and hopping hares, among others. This is a unique and stunning resource about the seasons. A must have for people who enjoy collages and plant pressing.
