[Book Quote Tuesday] Wise Words from The Book Of Hygge

Louisa Thomsen Brits' "The Book Of Hygge: The Danish Art of Contentment Comfort And Connection."

Myra here.

It is that time of the week again where we share a book quote that seemed particularly striking for us.

I have yet to read Louisa Thomsen Brits’ The Book Of Hygge: The Danish Art of Contentment, Comfort, and Connectionbut I have heard of it. The philosophy seems to be one that resonates with most people, kind of like Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and OrganizingEvidently, the world needs some guidance in living simpler, more meaningful lives.

I inserted the quote above in a photo that I have taken from our bedroom with this gorgeous view – while my family and I were in Batam, Indonesia (Montigo Resorts) on Valentine’s Day this year. While I would not consider myself a huge fan of self-help, instructional manuals on how I should lead my life (which I find to be confining and utterly prescriptive), I am definitely intrigued and hope to get to one of these books at one point, when I am in the proper headspace for it.

Prior to moving to the Middle East, she lived for eleven years in Singapore serving as a teacher educator. She has edited five books on rediscovering children’s literature in Asia (with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia, India, China, Japan) as part of the proceedings for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she served as the Chair of the Programme Committee for the Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference from 2011 until 2019. While she is an academic by day, she is a closet poet and a book hunter at heart. When she is not reading or writing about books or planning her next reads, she is hoping desperately to smash that shuttlecock to smithereens because Badminton Is Life (still looking for badminton courts here at UAE - suggestions are most welcome).

  1. Lovely quote and photo combination! I haven’t read either book, but something important in them is certainly resonating with people. xo
