Fats here.
It’s Monday, What are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Jen from Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee and Ricki from Unleashing Readers (new host of Monday reading: Kathryn T at Book Date). Since two of our friends, Linda from Teacher Dance and Tara from A Teaching Life have been joining this meme for quite awhile now, we thought of joining this warm and inviting community.
Garden update from my friend: the succulents are blooming! This is not a drill! The succulents are blooming! I am happy for her and how her soil has blossomed into something beautiful since she moved to Ohio five years ago. Because I could not, for the life of me, keep plants alive, I’m just going to share garden-themed picture books to make up for that. *wink*

In Isabella’s Garden, readers will find all sorts of amazing things. From the soil, all dark and deep, to the clouds that cry the rain. One cannot miss the flowers that waltz with the wind or the leaves that turn crimson and gold. Millard writes Isabella’s Garden in the tradition of the beloved nursery rhyme, The House That Jack Built. It’s a wondrous spin on a classic story filled with beautiful images of nature.

A Year in Our New Garden is one of several nature-themed picture books by German children’s writer, Gerda Muller. I found this book along with Isabella’s Garden when I worked this past weekend. Although both books managed to come full circle, A Year in Our New Garden is much more detailed in text and illustrations. The story focuses on two siblings, Anna and Benjamin, and how they spent a year learning about gardening when the moved into their new home in the middle of a busy town. From planting to nurturing to harvesting, this book is a treat for gardeners of all ages.

I adore the cover of Isabella’s Garden. As a person who loves to garden, I will be looking for both of these books! Alas, neither are available in my library system!
