[Book Quote Tuesday] Cultivating One’s Habits

"Bloodchild And Other Stories" by Octavia Butler

Myra here.

It is that time of the week again where we share a book quote that seemed particularly striking for us.

I have not had the pleasure of reading any Octavia Butler novel yet – but I was able to see the theatre adaptation of The Parable Of The Sower shown here in Singapore a few years back. This quote above from Bloodchild and Other Stories is an important reminder to a lot of aspiring authors, or artists, or musicians – actually in any field. What we feed our mind after all eventually defines us.

She has edited five books on rediscovering children’s literature in Asia (with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia, India, China, Japan) as part of the proceedings for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she serves as the Chair of the Programme Committee for the Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference. While she is an academic by day, she is a closet poet and a book hunter at heart. When she is not reading or writing about books or planning her next reads or meeting up with her book club friends, she is smashing that shuttlecock to smithereens because Badminton Is Life.
