World of Wonder: Recently Published Picturebooks to Add to Your Reading List

Featuring The Neighbors, Tomorrow is Waiting, and My Heart! Check them out!

Fats here.

If you’re like me trying to play catch up with all the gorgeous picturebooks that have been published recently, then you may want to check your local library for the titles I’m sharing below! It’s hard to keep track of new books. I’m very fortunate that I am subscribed to bookish newsletters that provide a list of new titles.

0225bThe Neighbors

Written and illustrated by Einat Tsarfati
Translated by Annette Appel
Published by Abrams Books for Young Readers (2019)
ISBN: 9781419731686
Copy provided by Medina County District Library.
Book photos by me.

From the dust jacket: Climbing the stairs to her seventh-floor apartment each night, one curious little girl wonders what is behind her neighbors’ doors. Each door is totally different from the last, so she guesses that each apartment must contain a totally different kind of household… When she reaches her own door, the girl enters to find an ordinary, quiet home, with ordinary quiet parents… or so she thinks.

Einat Tsarfati combines whimsy and delight in this richly illustrated picturebook. Parents can engage their children by asking them what could possibly be behind each door. Lovely surprises await in every turn of the page. The last bit was my favorite, of course.

About the Author Einat Tsarfati graduated with honors from the visual communication department at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. She is a freelance editorial illustrator as well as the illustrator of books for children, including An After Bedtime Story.

0225dTomorrow is Waiting

Written by Kiley Frank
Illustrated by Aaron Meshon
Published by Dial Books (2019)
ISBN: 9781101994375
Copy provided by Medina County District Library.
Book photos by me.

From the dust jacket: Tomorrow is waiting to be discovered… What will your adventure be? With encouraging words and breathtaking art, this book invites readers to bravely explore the endless possibilities of tomorrow.

Kiley Frank’s debut picturebook is a lyrical invitation to welcome a new day, despite the uncertainty it brings. If you enjoy children’s classics like Guess How Much I Love You, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, and Nancy Tillman’s books, then you will love Tomorrow is Waiting. It fills your heart with hope, positive thoughts, and good vibes. It makes for a perfect gift for little ones.

About the Author Kiley Frank doesn’t always know what she’ll be doing tomorrow, but she hopes it involves fresh air, a good book, and a chance to learn something new. She lives in Upstate New York with her family. This is her first book.

0225fMy Heart

Written and illustrated by Corinna Luyken
Published by Dial Books (2019)
ISBN: 9780735227934
Copy provided by Cleveland Public Library.
Book photos by me.

From the dust jacket: From moments of great joy and exuberance to necessary times of quiet contemplation, your heart is your guide. With lyrical text and breathtaking art by award winning author-illustrator Corinna Luyken, My Heart empowers all readers to listen to the voice within in this ode to love and self-acceptance.

Corinna Luyken delivers yet another brilliant and heartwarming picturebook. My Heart highlights both good and not-so-good sides when it comes to one’s heart. This is hands-down one of my favorite reads this year. I love her signature style of soft textured illustrations using water-based ink and pencil.

About the Author Corinna Luyken is the author-illustrator of The Book of Mistakes, which received four starred reviews and has been praised by Entertainment Weekly, the Wall Street Journal, NPR, and more. She also illustrated Adrian Simcox Does NOT Have a Horse by Marcy Campbell. She lives in Olympia Washington, with her husband, daughter, and two cats.
