Photographs from Verona, Italy

Myra here.

Every Tuesday, we share photographs from our recent or long-ago travels, or just everyday stuff that appealed to our mindful eye and sharp sensibilities as captured through fleeting images.

Walking Around Verona

I have shared quite a few photographs of our day-tour while we were in Verona a year ago. Here are a few more that are not taken inside a museum or while doing a Romeo and Juliet pilgrimage – simply enjoying the streets and its people.

“You are still young, free.. Do yourself a favor. Before it’s too late, without thinking too much about it first, pack a pillow and a blanket and see as much of the world as you can. You will not regret it. One day it will be too late.”
― Jhumpa Lahiri, The Namesake

“Traveling has less to do with seeing things than experiencing them…”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Choice

“So, here you are
too foreign for home
too foreign for here.
Never enough for both.”
― Ijeoma Umebinyuo, Questions for Ada

“I’m never sad when a friend goes far away, because whichever city or country that friend goes to, they turn the place friendly. They turn a suspicious-looking name on the map into a place where a welcome can be found. Maybe the friend will talk about you sometimes, to other friends that live around him, and then that’s almost as good as being there yourself. You’re in several places at once! In fact, my daughter, I would even go so far as to say that the further away your friends, and the more spread out they are the better your chances of going safely through the world…”
― Helen Oyeyemi, Mr. Fox

“People around the world were moving from one place to another. No one was staying.”
― Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
“It was exciting to be off on a journey she had looked forward to for months. Oddly, the billowing diesel fumes of the airport did not smell like suffocating effluence, it assumed a peculiar pungent scent that morning, like the beginning of a new adventure, if an adventure could exude a fragrance.”
― E.A. Bucchianeri, Brushstrokes of a Gadfly
“Arriving at each new city, the traveller finds again a past of his that he did not know he had: the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you in foreign, unpossessed places.”
― Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities
“You thought too hard. Same with travel. You can’t work too much at it, or it feels like work. You have to surrender yourself to the chaos. To the accidents.”
― Gayle Forman, Just One Day
“As I say, I have never in all these years thought of the matter in quite this way; but then it is perhaps in the nature of coming away on a trip such as this that one is prompted towards such surprising new perspectives on topics one imagined one had long ago thought throughly.”
― Kazuo Ishiguro, The Remains of the Day

“He was going somewhere, he knew that. And if it was the wrong direction, sooner or later he’d find it out.”
― Raymond Carver, Cathedral
“Once you’d resolved to go, there was nothing to it at all.”
― Jeannette Walls, The Glass Castle
