[BHE 317] A Stack of Picturebooks (Double Up Your Reading Loan Special) and Book Mail/Gifts

Double Up Your Reading Loan Special

Myra here.

During the school holidays, the national library board singapore usually offers a double-up your reading loan. It appears that I may have gone just a tad overboard over the past weeks or so to ensure that I maximize all three of our library cards.

(Mostly) Picturebook Biographies (PBB) from the Library

As per usual, I tried to look for picturebooks that fit our current reading theme on biographies and memoirs. This would explain the preponderance of PBB that you can see here.

Where’s Will? Find Shakespeare Hidden In His Plays by Anna Claybourne and Illustrated by Tilly, Will’s Words: How William Shakespeare Changed The Way You Talk by Jane Sutcliffe and Illustrated by John Shelley.

Big Wig: A Little History Of Hair by Kathleen Krull and Illustrated by Peter Malone, Clothes and Fashion Picture Book: An Usborne Book by Ruth Brocklehurst.

Ada Lovelace: Poet Of Science by Diane Stanley and Illustrated by Jessie Hartland, Ada Byron Lovelace And The Thinking Machine by Laurie Wallmark and Illustrated by April Chu.

Lives Of The Pirates by Kathleen Krull and Kathryn Hewitt, The Prince and the Sphinx by Cari Meister and Illustrated by Leonardo Meschini.

I, Galileo by Bonnie Christensen, Caroline’s Comets by Emily Arnold McCully.

When Rosa Parks Went Fishing by Rachel Ruiz and Illustrated by Chiara Fedele, When Martin Luther King Jr Wore Roller Skates by Mark Weakland and Illustrated by Patrick Ballesteros.

Grace Hopper: Queen Of Computer Code by Laurie Wallmark and Illustrated by Katy Wu, 100 Hugs by Chris Riddell.

StoryWorlds: A Moment In Time – A Perpetual Picture Atlas by Thomas Hegbrook – this one is a must-purchase, as soon as I have lifted my self-imposed book buying ban.

Book Club Picks

The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker.

The Age Of American Unreason by Susan Jacoby for the #BowieBookClub, The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot for my IRL book club.

This is for my #HorrorPostalBookClub #ScreamsByMail group – sent to me from Germany: The Grip Of It by Jac Jemc. This will make the rounds across seven people from different countries.

Pansing Book and Book Gift

The Colour Of The Sun by David Almond, Karapat Dapat Created by CANVAS Books.

I won one of Litsy’s many giveaways and received these lovelies from a Litsy Book Friend. The tea, bookmarks, and the card warm my heart even more. I’ve said it before and will say it again: Book People are the Best People On Earth! Zami: A New Spelling Of My Name: A Biomythography by Audre Lorde, The Autobiography Of My Mother by Jamaica Kincaid.

Any title here that caught your eye? What are the books that found their way into your hands over the past weeks or so?

  1. I love the idea of biographies told in picture book format. We have one on DaVinci that the kids love but could definitely use some more 🙂 Great haul!
