Every Tuesday, we share photographs from our recent or long-ago travels, or just everyday stuff that appealed to our mindful eye and sharp sensibilities as captured through fleeting images.
Al Fresco Florentine Dinner in Tavarnuzze
Over the past weeks, I have been sharing photographs of restaurants, cafes, eateries that my family and I have been to while traveling around Europe last year. This one is extra special as this was our last dinner while we were staying in Tavarnuzze (quite close to Florence), and it was also our advance Father’s Day celebration as we traveled the ten-hour bus ride back to Munich early the next day.
Ristorante Pizzeria La Bianchina
Via Cassia, 36, 50023 Impruneta FI, Italy
La Bianchina is Tavarnuzze’s unpretentious and frequented-by-locals ristorante pizzeria.
We had gorgonzola pizza and baked pecorino for 16 year old girl, wild boar maremmana style for husband (deliciously tender and filling), and tripe florentine style for moi (because I love tuwalya!!), plus calamari because crunchy and with a hint of truffle.
“After a full belly all is poetry.”
― Frank McCourt
“I wondered what you’d have on the side with a plate of Deep Fried Anxiety. Pickles? Coleslaw? Potato-strychnine mash?”
― Robin McKinley, Sunshine
Usually one’s cooking is better than one thinks it is. And if the food is truly vile, as my ersatz eggs Florentine surely were, then the cook must simply grit her teeth and bear it with a smile — and learn from her mistakes.”
― Julia Child, My Life in France
“Though their life was modest, they believed in eating well.”
― James Joyce, Dubliners
Tartufo nero for dessert and take-out pizza. This is definitely a restaurant you should come visit when in Tavarnuzze or near Tuscany.
