Every Saturday we hope to share with you our thoughts on reading and books. We thought that it would be good practice to reflect on our reading lives and our thoughts about reading in general. While on occasion, we would feature a few books in keeping with this, there would be a few posts where we will just write about our thoughts on read-alouds, libraries, reading journals, upcoming literary conferences, books that we are excited about, and just book love miscellany in general.
Around two months ago, a research project that I headed (and recently concluded) with a few other colleagues in our institute has been featured in the papers. We looked into the reading lives of Singapore teachers (and teachers-in-training) and developed a database of multicultural picturebooks for social and emotional learning, which we are hoping to launch here at GatheringBooks soonest. Since a great deal of those titles have to do with experiences of refugees, immigrants, children in-between countries or are moving from one place to the next, I thought it would be a good excuse to share that Straits Times feature here today. I use your list of books always. For a learning and discussing a theme and to introduce teachers to new books. Many teachers who use these books weekly in the library have been very complimentary on the choices of books, so thank you.
