Fearless Females and Courageous Women Meet the Storyteller Reading Themes

[Featured Guest for March-April 2016] Meet the Storyteller: Catherine Torres

Myra here.

We have just launched our new reading theme this March-April: Fearless Females and Courageous Women.

I am happy to feature an author who has won literary recognition for the way she weaves words together, a Filipina who is now based in Berlin, Germany.

Meet the Storyteller: Catherine Torres

Profile Photo 2

Catherine Torres is a diplomat and writer from Manila. Her work in the Foreign Service has taken her to postings in New Delhi, Singapore, and now, Berlin, where she lives with her husband and their son, Samuel. When foreign affairs, as well as domestic ones, permit, Catherine travels around the world on boats made of words. Occasionally, as with Sula’s Voyage, which will be published by Scholastic Asia this year, she even builds the boat herself. Her short story collection Mariposa Gang and Other Stories will also be released in 2016.

We look forward to knowing more about Cathy’s creative process and upcoming books. I am also excited to catch up with her during this year’s Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she will be launching her award-winning book.

How about you, fellow bibliogeeks? What is going on in your blog in the coming months?

Myra is a Teacher Educator and a registered clinical psychologist based in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Prior to moving to the Middle East, she lived for eleven years in Singapore serving as a teacher educator. She has edited five books on rediscovering children’s literature in Asia (with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia, India, China, Japan) as part of the proceedings for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she served as the Chair of the Programme Committee for the Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference from 2011 until 2019. While she is an academic by day, she is a closet poet and a book hunter at heart. When she is not reading or writing about books or planning her next reads, she is hoping desperately to smash that shuttlecock to smithereens because Badminton Is Life (still looking for badminton courts here at UAE - suggestions are most welcome).
