Fats here.
I am joining Poetry Friday today—Yay! Because of our current theme, Scarred Souls & Bloodstained Memories: Tales of War & Poetry, Refuge & Peace, I would like to share with you excerpts from a brilliant novel entitled, Home of the Brave. To be more precise, Home of the Brave is a novel in verse written by Katherine Applegate, who is known for her Animorph series. It tells the story of a young African boy named Kek who moved to America to start a new life. There he befriended a girl from foster care and tended a cow that he named Gol, a word that meant “family” in his language. I love Home of the Brave, and I wish I could share the entire novel in verse! I suppose the following excerpts will do, as they happen to be my favorites.
Thank you Heidi of My Juicy Little Universe for doing the round-up post this week!
The following lines were taken from the chapter called “Family.”
The excerpts below were taken from the chapter called “Lessons.”
This last set of verses is part of the epilogue called “Homecoming.”
I hope you enjoyed my Poetry Friday offering today.
Please don’t forget to visit the round-up post!

This was beautiful, Fats – especially that last excerpt, in light of all that is going on in our world at the moment.
