[Poetry Friday] William Carlos Williams and His Ode to Caviar

I am delighted to join Poetry Friday this week. I am sharing a short but lovely poem by William Carlos Williams, a simple ode to his favorite dish: the caviar. Caviar is a delicacy consisting of salt-cured fish-eggs. I have not had one myself, but I’ve seen it featured in TV shows like The Amazing Race, Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, and An Idiot Abroad. Maybe one of these days I’ll try it.

Fats is the Assistant Manager for Circulation Services at the Wayne County Public Library in Wooster, Ohio. She considers herself a reader of all sorts, although she needs to work on her non-fiction reading. Fats likes a good mystery but is not too fond of thrillers. She takes book hoarding seriously and enjoys collecting bookmarks and tote bags. When she is not reading, Fats likes to shop pet apparel for her cat Penny (who absolutely loathes it).

  2. Hi, Fats. I *love* WCW, but wasn’t familiar with this poem. What a cool picture of the caviar with those textured lips! I do like caviar — and most salty foods — but a little goes a long way.


  3. How fun to find a new-to-me WCW poem! I’m not sure I ever want to EAT caviar, but I’ll read about it, no problem!
