[Photo Journal/ A-Z Photo Story Challenge] L is for Los Angeles

Myra here.

I am joining Frizztext’s A-Z Photo Story Challenge this week with an L-Photo from Los Angeles.

L is for Los Angeles

“The entrance to the Underworld is in Los Angeles.”
― Rick RiordanThe Lightning Thief

“Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles.”
― Frank Lloyd Wright

“I could hear everything, together with the hum of my hotel neon. I never felt sadder in my life. LA is the loneliest and most brutal of American cities; New York gets godawful cold in the winter but there’s a feeling of wacky comradeship somewhere in some streets. LA is a jungle.”
― Jack KerouacOn the Road

“Los Angeles was the kind of place where everybody was from somewhere else and nobody really droppped anchor. It was a transient place. People drawn by the dream, people running from the nightmare. Twelve million people and all of them ready to make a break for it if necessary. Figuratively, literally, metaphorically — any way you want to look at it — everbody in L.A. keeps a bag packed. Just in case.”
― Michael ConnellyThe Brass Verdict

Myra is a Teacher Educator and a registered clinical psychologist based in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Prior to moving to the Middle East, she lived for eleven years in Singapore serving as a teacher educator. She has edited five books on rediscovering children’s literature in Asia (with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia, India, China, Japan) as part of the proceedings for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she served as the Chair of the Programme Committee for the Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference from 2011 until 2019. While she is an academic by day, she is a closet poet and a book hunter at heart. When she is not reading or writing about books or planning her next reads, she is hoping desperately to smash that shuttlecock to smithereens because Badminton Is Life (still looking for badminton courts here at UAE - suggestions are most welcome).

  2. LA seems a bit scary to me so I’m with Jack Kerouac here 🙂

  3. thanks for the interesting quotation: “New York gets godawful cold in the winter, but there’s a feeling of wacky comradeship somewhere in some streets. LA is a jungle.”
― Jack Kerouac, On the Road

  4. I was there only briefly (passing through, of course) and I have to say that this pretty much summarises how I felt about what I saw. Some great quotes! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
