Myra here.
It’s Sunday! Time for us to share the books that have found their way into our hands during the past weeks or so. Today, I am so glad to share that I received a few freebies from Pansing that are in keeping with our bimonthly themes throughout the year here in GatheringBooks! As they say, the best things in life are free!
Delectable Novels from Pansing Books
Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. I’ve been intrigued by this title ever since it was featured in the Nerdy Book Club (see here for a review by Cathy Blackler). I am excited to feature this for our Science Fiction/Steampunk theme in September/October.
Once and Then by Morris Gleitzman will be featured for our War and Poetry theme to be featured in July-August. I love the award buttons in the book cover.
The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a ship of her own making and The Girl who fell Beneath Fairyland and led the Revels there by Catherynne M. Valente I shall feature for our Fantasy Overload in November/December. While Fats has written a review of the first book in the Fairyland Series by Valente, I will be writing down my own thoughts alongside the other two books in the series. Still avidly waiting for the third book to arrive.
Salvage by Keren David I shall be featuring this March/April. I am excited to read it.
Birthday Books
For my Birthday, my husband and daughter spoiled me by giving me all these goodies: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, the Graphic Novel by Ransom Riggs and art by Cassandra Jean, Hollow City by Ransom Riggs, Tinder by Sally Gardner; and because my husband and I are addicted to the TV series True Detective, my husband gave me Roberto Bolaño’s 2666.
I am very grateful to Isabel ‘Pepper’ Roxas for sending me a copy of Goodnight Songs by the inimitable Margaret Wise Brown illustrated by 12 award-winning picture book artists, including our featured Illustrator in GatheringBooks last month, Pepper Roxas! Such a gorgeous book. Goosebumps-inducing indeed!
Oohhh interested to see Goodnight Songs!

Happy Birthday, Myra! Books are definitely my favorite present too! I’m so happy to see Goodnight Songs on your list today! I just got a copy of this book myself – and was planning to feature it on my tomorrow’s IMWAYR list! Isn’t it beautiful? Margaret Wise Brown books Little Red Barn, Goodnight Moon, Runaway Bunny were all constants in my home when my boys were younger. When I read those books now, I can still smell their baby heads! Have a wonderful day!
