BHE (40): Modest Book Loot

In contrast to previous book hunting expeditions where we feature quite a huge collection of book finds, my book post this Sunday morning is comparatively a modest loot. Here are some titles that found me over the past weeks or so.

Book Wins

These books came from a lovely, generous, beautiful, and talented soul in the person of Irene Latham, a wonderful poet who blogs at Live Your Poem. When I received word that I won a book prize pack, I was ecstatic with glee, and naturally I had to choose the Marilyn Singer Cybils Poetry Pack: A Stick is an Excellent Thing: Poems Celebrating Outdoor Play illustrated by LeUyen Pham and A Strange Place to call home illustrated by no other than Ed Young.

My Library Finds

I heard about this book through the lovely Fats who featured this as well for her own book hunting expedition post two weeks back, and I knew I just had to borrow this book as it is written by our absolute favorite here in GatheringBooks: Naomi Shihab Nye’s There is no long distance now: short stories.

I know there is a very high probability I won’t get to read this book, but I couldn’t help it after finding out that it won the Newbery Honor for 2012. Fire Spell by Laura Amy Schlitz otherwise known as Splendors and Glooms.

Book Find from the Philippines

Several weeks back, I was invited to be one of the speakers for an international conference in the Philippines. Before I went back home here to Singapore, I made sure I that I made a very quick stop in one of my favorite book stores in the Philippines: Books for Less. I only bought one book for myself, and I thought it was a pretty decent find for around 7 singapore dollars: The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf and Drawings by Robert Lawson.
