It’s our 23rd post for our Book Hunting Expedition here in GatheringBooks. As per usual, I am sharing the books that I borrowed from our library here in Singapore – this time I borrowed a few books from our NIE Library.
I went on an Anthony Browne book-borrowing binge, as I know that these are fairly new acquisitions that we have: Willy’s Pictures, Willy the Dreamer, The Tunnel, Silly Billy and Bear Hunt.
Fats has written a beautiful review of The Heart and the Bottle by Oliver Jeffers. So I thought that I might as well borrow and read this one.
What can I say? I can’t get enough of Walter Moers: The Alchemaster’s Apprentice. I honestly don’t know when I would steal the time to read all these novels, but I shall make time for things I love, that’s for sure.
Children’s Books from Epigram
I am also very excited to receive these fabulous new picture books from Epigram Books here in Singapore. These four books are gorgeous selections of children’s picture books from around the globe (Spain, Italy, France, and Korea) and translated from their original languages to English: Why Cats don’t Wear Hats by Spanish author Victoria Perez Escriva, illustrated by Ester Garcia, and translated from the Spanish by Silvia Hagge de Crespin; The King and The Frog by Alain Chiche and illustrated by Sylvian Diez and translated from the French by poet Kevin J M Keane; I Love Chocolate by Swiss-born Italian writer Davide Cali and illustrated by Evelyn Daviddi; and Blanket Travel by writer and illustrator Kim Da-Jeong, published for the first time. I shall be reviewing these four books very soon!
Hi Myra, I am amazed that you have all these books from around the world-more for me to see if I can find them. I imagine that Jama will like the I Love Chocolate one. I’ve not heard of Walter Moers, so will definitely look him up. My one find this week is a great book illustrated by Shaun Tan that I found in our school library, Memorial. It is about war and remembering, and is as beautiful as you can imagine. Cheers to you!

Hi Linda, I scheduled a review of these four beautiful books for the Monday meme two weeks from now, I think. I loved all of the titles – wonderful books. I looked for Memorial here in our public libraries and couldn’t find it, I’m heartbroken. 😦 We also don’t have The Viewer here by Gary Crew and Shaun Tan. Will ask our libraries to get copies soon.
