We are slowly getting the hang of joining the weekly photo challenges as hosted by Frizztext’s A-Z Photo Challenge. Letter this week is S and I chose the theme Sanctuary. Most places of worship (cathedrals, churches, synagogues) are commonly thought of as places of refuge or sanctuary. Since we have done a Places of Worship for letter P, I thought that I might as well follow it through with this theme. These photos were taken when I was in Europe same time last year.
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna Austria
“Dear refuge of my weary soul,
On thee, when sorrows rise,
On thee, when waves of trouble roll,
My fainting hope relies.”
― Anne Steele
St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague
“From my spirit’s gray defeat,
From my pulse’s flagging beat,
From my hopes that turned to sand
Sifting through my close-clenched hand,
From my own fault’s slavery,
If I can sing, I still am free. For with my singing I can make
A refuge for my spirit’s sake,
A house of shining words, to be
My fragile immortality.”
― Sara Teasdale

yes, there are many St. – I just played guitar at St. Andrew’s Church of Scotland in Bruxelles:

These are beautiful shots of magnificent buildings 🙂 I was tempted to enter St. Albans Abbey but decided to save that for another time.
