Bloggiesta Update: Mobilize Challenge

This is my first attempt to do a blog post using my iPhone thru BlogPress as part of Florinda from The 3 R’s Blog (@florinda_3rs) Mobilize! mini-challenge.

Our Saturdays are usually packed with my daughter’s swimming class, my Sivananda yoga, and right now we’re in my daughter’s theater school.

It would help if I can blog on the go with the iPhone. However,
I could already see a few issues/problems:
1. Hyperlinking is a pain but still manageable. I was able to navigate my way thru it. However, seeing html codes still do frighten me out of my wits.
2. I am unable to gain access to our wordpress media gallery of stored/uploaded photos. This only leads me to my iphone’s album.
3. Doing the layout, formatting of fonts, and including photo captions is difficult. I’m sure there is a way to do it thru the function, but it’ll lead me again to seeing those scary html codes.
4. Editing this post would be challenging as well.

However, despite all this. I feel a surge of excitement and accomplishment knowing I’ve successfully downloaded all these helpful apps and once i get the hang of it, I’m sure it’d flow easier.

How about you, what are some of the challenges you experienced in blogging thru your mobile phones? We’d love to know if you have other tips and strategies to share.

  1. I’ve never blogged with a mobile phone…I wish you luck. Sounds like it can be a challenge. Is it easy to comment on a phone.

    • Hi TBM, I think you’d have to be online in most of your emails (e.g. gmail for blogger), then it should be easy to write comments (beware of auto-correct though). I usually write comments using my iPad, much easier compared to the iPhone.

  2. I have never dared to blog with my mobile. This is a great challenge, though, so I will try it at least once. I usually write longer pieces, like book reviews and don’t think I need the option to write posts on my phone, but I’d like to try it.

Sounds like you found a few problems with it, not ideal. Maybe it’s more for people who want to post a picture and a few lines of text.

    • Hi Lee, agreed. I encountered quite a bit of issues, and I’d probably not do this, unless as you have noted it’s simply the posting of a photo and a few lines of text. Book reviews would be too unwieldy. 🙂

Blogging from your phone is hard. It’s just so much easier to be on a real computer. I have the WordPress app on my Droid 3 and it’s a great app, but I mainly use it to resond to comments on the go, or to check my stats if I’m feeling vain, lol. The only time I write a post from it anymore is if I don’t care about adding photos or links to it anyways.

Hope you can find a happy medium with your blogging apps! 🙂

    • Hi Sarah, I have to agree with that one. In fact, I bring my mac with me wherever I go since I am thankful that Singapore is pretty much wired everywhere. However, it would be interesting to also get to know other ways/means through which it can be done. This was a real great task for me, and I am pretty sure that I’d be able to find a lot of uses for the blogging apps. 🙂

  4. Yes, Auto-correct is a real problem! If I write anything in Blogpress I have to remember to check it 3 times just in case it’s gone a little nuts. I also have problems with the formatting, it seems to suck my spaces out.

That said, it’s so nice to have something on the road so when I am in a bookstore or something I can add a title and jot down the title, and then be able to access my thoughts later from iPhone.

My big mobilize wishlist is to be able to access Amazon associates links from mobile. Someday I hope!

I didn’t know you were in Singapore! That’s almost close to me. 🙂 No wonder you are up commenting on my time zone!
