Book Hunting Expeditions Dahl and Magical Reading Themes

In My Mailbox (14): Quickstop at Barnes & Noble

I meant to buy more books this week, but illness struck me like lightning. Thus, I only managed to include 4 new picture books for today’s In My Mailbox. This is our 14th contribution to the fabulous weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren.

I haven’t been to Barnes & Noble for ages. Opportunity knocked on the door when I did some bank errands a few days ago. I didn’t even mean to go to Barnes & Noble that day, until my friend requested for a tall brewed coffee from Starbucks. (I love the discounts I get from the B&N Cafe, so I decided to drop by and glance at books while I was there.)

I left the store with 4 new picture books in hand! Don Brown’s Odd Boy Out and Kathleen Krull’s The Boy On Fairfield Street are perfect for Nonfiction Monday. The third book, Which Witch’s Wand Works? by Poly Bernatene, is a goofy story of two witches who decided to have a contest to find out who is the better witch. It’s only September and barely time for Halloween, but nothing is too early here at GatheringBooks, especially for our bimonthly theme Everything Dahl and Magical. And speaking of Dahl, I was fortunate to find Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile, the last copy on the shelf! It was truly a wonderful addition to my Dahl collection, and fitting for our Dahl feature these next two months.

As of this morning, I am still recovering from this horrible sickness. Hoping to regain my full strength (and full regalia) by the middle of next week. For now, I must continue the battle against sore throat and that horrible “blah” feeling when one is sick. I must emerge as the victor the soonest because I certainly don’t get along well with throat lozenges and cough syrup. Heh. =)

Fats is the Assistant Manager for Circulation Services at the Wayne County Public Library in Wooster, Ohio. She considers herself a reader of all sorts, although she needs to work on her non-fiction reading. Fats likes a good mystery but is not too fond of thrillers. She takes book hoarding seriously and enjoys collecting bookmarks and tote bags. When she is not reading, Fats likes to shop pet apparel for her cat Penny (who absolutely loathes it).

I was browsing through the YA fiction and grabbed a few books already until I found these! So glad I bought them. Yes, Roald Dahl and his books are amazing. Stay tuned for our reviews on his delectable tales! I feel much better now, thank you. =)

    • Hello Katelyn! Thank you! I got sick because of the AC at work. I work graveyard shift, and I had the misfortune of not bringing my sweater to work that night. And yes add to that is the changing season. I feel better now, although still having some sneezing and coughing episodes. I hope you and your family are better! =)
