In My Mailbox (6) – Hurrah to Book Prizes arriving in the Mail

I have just arrived this week in Singapore, and to welcome me back home I received several notices indicating that there are book packages awaiting my pick-up. Yipee! Such a wonderful way to welcome me home.

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. It is truly a pleasure to join this meme since it allows me as well to keep track of books that I (1) bought (2) were given to me as gifts (3) given to me for review (4) book prizes.

Here are my presents for the week:

Book Prizes!

I got the Good Little Wolf by Nadia Shireen in a book giveaway hosted by Zoe from Playing by the Book. Thanks so much for this, truly unexpected. I also thought that the book would be perfect for our Bimonthly theme this July/August on Fractured Fairy tales.

Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes is also another book prize that I received from participating in the Person of Color Reading Challenge. I was among the winners selected for the month of April. I am happy to share that I have now received the book.

From Ken Spillman

Now here are three more books that arrived unexpectedly in my mailbox this week: three lovely YA books from the prolific Australian Author, Ken Spillman. I met Ken during the recent AFCC here in Singapore and we have discussed the possibility of my featuring him for our Meet the Storyteller section, and he has generously said yes. These three books would be featured here as well.

The books also came with an enclosed note:

Very beautiful. Thank you so much, Ken!

I am also happy to share that I have just received the books (all 18 kilos of them) that I bought while I was in the Philippines. Since I already did an IMM post for most of them, I will just be featuring the books that I received from the authors themselves along with their beautiful dedication:

From the great Jose V. Abueva Himself.
To Myra Garces-Bacsal: With deep admiration and warm best wishes - Pepe Abueva

Dedication from Dr. K: For Myra, With all good wishes for your work on Filipino Musicians.
Lovely present from PETA: Philippine Educational Theater Association
Heartfelt dedication (rough translation): For you, Myra: A token from PETA. Many thanks for your sharing of your knowledge and expertise.
An unexpected gift from a friend's uncle - the great Bobby Caballero
Note from Tito Bobby: To Dada, Nothing happens by coincidence. Hope you visit our beautiful valley and soak in the outstanding history.

How about you? What is your IMM for the week?

  1. Myra –
Lucky you!! I started reading Ninth Ward one afternoon and had to stay up into the wee hours of the next day to finish it. Guarantee that once you start you won’t be able to put it down. It is an absolutely amazing book and I still find myself thinking about it often! Definitely will be in my top 3 list from the books that I read in 2011.

    • Hi Nina. Thanks for visiting. If not for this comment of yours I would not have noticed that I made an error in my post – I just arrived back home in Singapore is what I meant to say. =)
