[BHE 99] Showing More Love to Diversity

BHE

Fats here.

It has come to my attention that I’m 5 books behind schedule, according to my 2014 Reading Challenge on Goodreads. Yikes! I guess I’ll have to devour my way through these books and hopefully reach my goal of 150 books this year! Despite the “backlog,” I’m happy to share my recent book loot with you today. Let me know which of them you’ve read or want to read!

Books Diversified

Here are titles that I think fit our current theme—Rainbow Colors of Diversity: Voices of the Silenced.

bhe1

A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni

bhe2

I borrowed another Leo Lionni book, An Extraordinary Egg. Oh, I love his books! I’ve read Swimmy, as well as Little Blue and Little Yellow. Unfortunately, those titles were loaned out. I found The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin and David Shannon in the online library catalog.

bhe3

I have featured both picturebook collaborations this month. Click the titles below to revisit the posts.
A Splash of Red: The Life and Art of Horace Pippin by Jen Bryant and Melissa Sweet
Ellington Was Not a Street by Ntozake Shange and Kadir Nelson

bhe4

Firegirl by Tony Abbott was featured this week, and I’m almost done reading Rules by Cynthia Lord (which I absolutely love).

bhe5

True Colors by Natalie Kinsey-Warnock was a “spur-of-the-moment” pick, a book that wasn’t in my list but I randomly picked up as I went from one shelf to another. Still fits our theme, though! WIN! I’m also excited to read Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork, especially since it was noted in the jacket flap that the story is reminiscent of Mark Haddon’s A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, YA version.

bhe6

I’m planning to revisit Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I wasn’t able to make progress with my reading last year. Crossing my fingers this month!

Miscellaneous Reads

Books are simply irresistible!

bhe7

Henry’s Map by David Elliot
A Home for Bird by Philip C. Stead

AREN’T THESE BOOKS ADORABLE?!

bhe8

Adventures of Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik and Maurice Sendak
Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli
The Summer Sherman Loved Me by Jane St. Anthony

WHAT ABOUT YOU, DEAR FRIENDS?
WHAT TITLES HAVE YOU BORROWED THIS WEEK?
