BHE (29): Book Bargains and Freebies

It’s Sunday once again, time for us to share the books that we have gathered over the week – the lost, stray words that have found its way into our hands, our beings, our souls – our Book Hunting Expeditions.

Book Bargains

“Secondhand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack. Besides, in this random miscellaneous company we may rub against some complete stranger who will, with luck, turn into the best friend we have in the world.”—Virginia Woolf

I discovered this quote on Facebook and I thought it would be wonderful to share it here as I often visit bargain bookstores. A few weeks back, there was this huge sale in our university and I did find a few titles that I know would be welcomed by my shelves at home.

I availed of the 3 books for 10 dollars deal that the bookstall was offering and I got these lovelies: The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, Arthur & George by Julian Barnes, and A Dragon Lover’s treasury of the Fantastic edited and collected by Margaret Weis.

I bought this treasure for one dollar (!!!) in our church book sale a week ago: My Invented Country: A Memoir by Isabel Allende.

Freebies from Pansing Books

The book that I have been avidly waiting for: Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler and Maira Kalman. I am also intrigued by this other title that Pansing Books thought I’d be interested to review as well: Ibarajo Road by Harry Allen – anyone who has read this book yet?

I’ve read a number of fairly-positive reviews about this book from fellow book bloggers, so I’m looking forward to finally knowing more about Maggie Stiefvater’s writing: The Raven Boys. Many thanks to Pansing Books for their generosity.

Library Loot

I actually borrowed way too many books again from our libraries, but allow me to just share my featured book which I reserved simply because Walter Moers is lovelovelove.

Rumo and his Miraculous Adventures by Walter Moers. Need I say more? My fourth Moers book this year.

How about you dear friends, what books found their way into your hands this week?
